Us artists sure do know how to waste time with the best of them. Maybe it’s just looking around on social media, or reorganizing our pencils, or shopping and testing for the perfect paper….I’m talking about all the things that can keep us from actually sitting down at the drawing desk and putting pencil to paper. The great Michelangelo knew this was an issue, which is probably why he wrote this note to his apprentice:
“Draw, Antonio; draw, Antonio; draw and don’t waste time.” ― Michelangelo Buonarroti
Is that practical advice, or what?!
Draw and don’t waste time. Sit down and do the work is still applicable today. Block out everything else for awhile. Push yourself, focus, and see what you can accomplish when you don’t waste time! Meanwhile, I’ll be over here trying just as hard to apply Michelangelo’s advice to my own drawing habits….
